Daventry Museum

Daventry museum is an accredited museum in the centre of Daventry, providing a friendly and welcoming space for people to share stories and learn about Daventry's rich past.

Permanent displays feature the town's ancient charters, weights and measures, mayoral regalia, Roman mosaic floor fragment as well as artefacts relating to the BBC's history on Borough Hill.

Alongside permanent displays, visitors will be able to see temporary exhibitions throughout the year. See below for more details.

The museum is family friendly and children can interact with museum objects in the 'Explorer Corner' and do fun activities such as colouring in, object hunts and quizzes. We offer school and community group visits and can cater for all school group ages.

Daventry Museum is a fascinating social history museum with regularly changing exhibitions and programme of events.

Supported by a team of invaluable volunteers and funded by Daventry Town Council, this cultural hub is where people meet to share stories and learn about Daventry's rich history whilst also shaping the continuing history of the town.

Opening Hours & Location

Admission: Free

Opening Hours:

  • Tuesday to Friday: 9.30am – 1.30pm
  • First Saturday of the month: 10.00am - 4.00pm

Museum Closures and Exhibition installation dates 2024/2025

The museum will close at 13:30 on Friday 6th December 2024 to deinstall the Daventry Retail Through the Ages exhibition and reopen on Saturday 11th January 2025 from 10:00 to 16:00 with a newly installed exhibition.

Location: located on the ground floor of the Town Council Offices at 3 New Street, Daventry, NN11 4BT.

Disabled Access: Daventry Museum occupies a historic building which has three steps at the front. Level access is available at the rear of the building via Church Walk - please ring the bell and we will be happy to help.

Science experiments

As part of British Science Week the museum holds free annual events with family friendly experiments for all to enjoy.

Semi-permeant exhibitions are on display at the museum and are changed on a Bi-Annual basis. Roman Mosaic before and after

One of the museum's star attractions is the permanent display of the Roman mosaic floor fragment, which has undergone much-needed conservation. For more information visit their website here.

Battle of Naseby diaply

The hugely popular Battle of Naseby 375 years - Daventry's Place in the Conflict - exhibition was held in 2020 and can still be viewed virtually by visiting the website here.

Childhood bike display

Our previous Life and Memories of a Childhood in Daventry exhibition was very popular with toys and games dating back to post-medieval times It can still be viewed virtually by visiting the website here.

Free craft events are held throughout the year including our Coronation Crafts

BBC 100th anniversary exhibition display

The BBC - A Centenary of Sights & Sounds Exhibition - was held in 2022 and told the story of how the BBC impacted Daventry. The exhibition along with others can still be viewed virtually via the website here.
