Daventry Town Centre Masterplan 2024
For many years Eastern Way Playing Fields has been earmarked for development within the Town Centre Visions, developed by the former Daventry District Council, adopted in 2012 and 2021, respectively.
Daventry Town Centre Vision 2035 (DTCV35), proposed to declutter and improve the public realm, improve pedestrian and cycle links to the Town, reduce traffic domination, introduce lighting, enhance the public open spaces to encourage growth of the night-time economy, re-locate the bus station to create a one-way system to give priority to pedestrians, develop land by the Police Station, West Court Car Park and Leisure Centre and build a new leisure/arts/community facility on land by The Hollow.
Unfortunately, Daventry Town does not attract government regeneration funding to fulfil many of the ambitions within DTCV35, however the Daventry Town Centre Masterplan 2024, aims to build on the key development opportunities highlighted DTCV35 to generate commercial investment in the town and further investment in public realm improvements within the Town Centre.
Following consultation with West Northamptonshire's Planning and Regeneration Team, Daventry Town Council maintain their objection to large scale development on Eastern Way Playing Fields, but accept that as the proposed development is likely to be approved, it is resolute in shaping that development via the planning process and will strive to ensure that funds from the sale of land within the Town will be invested back into the Town, as per the visionary element of the Masterplan.
