Daventry Charmed by Heritage Bus Tours

Daventry Town Council were thrilled to partner with Northampton Transport Heritage, and bring a selection of their classic buses to town, offering visitors free bus tours to mark National Heritage Open Days 2022.

The family friendly event, on Saturday 17th September 2022, allowed residents to become tourists for the day and see Daventry and its' neighbouring villages from a different perspective, whilst experiencing the magic of the beautifully preserved buses.

The heritage bus tours recreated former Local United Counties & Midland Red Bus Routes and covered 373.20 miles in total. The routes took in villages including Ashby St Ledgers, Badby, Braunston, Norton, Staverton, Weedon and Welton.

Passengers had the option to travel the whole journey and return to Daventry or get off at the various village stops and all journeys were free of charge. Visitors were able to buy programmes as a souvenir of the day and the profits of which go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicles.

The buses departed from Market Square, Daventry and transported 2688 passenger journeys, made up of 1885 Adults and 803 Children - the most Northampton Transport Heritage have ever given in one day.

The bus tours coincided with Daventry Farmers Market and the Daventry Museum Radar Experiment Event so the town was buzzing with activity and attractions for visitors to enjoy.

Daventry Mayor, Cllr. Malcolm Ogle enjoyed a bus tour and remarked:

The expertly preserved buses were loved by young and old visitors alike, plus the sunny autumnal weather made for the perfect backdrop to enjoy a vintage bus ride. Thank you to NTH and Daventry Town Council for their hard work behind the scenes organising and running the event so professionally. The spectacular buses were great addition to the Daventry Farmers' Market 2022 and we can't wait for you to visit again!"
