Hop On Board for Daventry Heritage Bus Rides

Town residents and visitors can take a trip down memory lane when Daventry Heritage Bus Rides return on Saturday 7th September. Northampton Transport Heritage will be bringing a fleet of vintage buses to Daventry and offering free rides along historic routes through the town and surrounding villages.

The event is organised by Daventry Town Council and is part of Heritage Open Days, England's largest festival of history and culture which takes place every September. This is the third year that the Town Council has celebrated Heritage Open Days with these retro bus rides and the free trips always prove popular with visitors young and old.

The buses will follow old United Counties and Midland Red bus routes, travelling in and around Ashby St Ledgers, Badby, Braunston, Northampton, Norton, Staverton, Weedon and Welton. Journeys are free for visitors to enjoy, with buses departing from Market Square in Daventry at various times between 10am and 3pm.

For a small fee, passengers who would like a memento of the free event will also have the opportunity to purchase a programme and timetable packed with information and photos. Funds from these sales will go to Northampton Transport Heritage, which is a local charity working to preserve vintage vehicles and promote the rich transport heritage of Northamptonshire.

Mayor of Daventry Cllr Karen Tweedale said: "It's wonderful to welcome Northampton Transport Heritage back to Daventry for this year's Heritage Open Days. I know how much visitors have enjoyed the fun and nostalgia of this event in previous years and I'm looking forward to hopping on board myself for a retro ride."

Daventry Foodies Market is also taking place on the same day, with stalls selling tasty treats, kitchen accessories and foodie gifts throughout the town centre. Meanwhile, Daventry Museum will be open from 10am to 4pm for a free event inspired by this year's Heritage Open Days theme 'Routes – Networks – Connections'.

Cllr Tweedale said: "With so much going on, Saturday 7th September looks set to be a fantastic day out in Daventry. From the bus tours and Foodies Market to displays by Daventry Model Boat Club and Daventry Model Railway Club at the museum, there's going to be so much to see and do."
