Town Celebrates a Super Sporting Summer at Daventry Summer Games and Daventry Skate Jam

While the world's best athletes were busy battling it out at the Paris 2024 Olympics, locals celebrated this special sporting season in style at Daventry Summer Games and Daventry Skate Jam on Saturday 3rd August.

This free event at New Street Park was organised by Daventry Town Council to showcase the many sports clubs and teams in the community, while encouraging local people to find a new hobby or discover a hidden sporting skill.

Visitors enjoyed having a go at a variety of free activities, ranging from boxing, fencing and martial arts to netball, rugby, archery and golf. There were also sports day races for little ones run by Sport4Fitness CIC, including classics like the sack race, egg and spoon race and hopscotch.

More leisurely activities like crafting were also available, as well as board and garden games galore thanks to Zepic Games & Events. Meanwhile, local favourites Syndicate Dance entertained the crowds with their fantastic performances.

Over on the skate park, Daventry Skate Jam was also taking place, with expert coaching and dazzling demos from Team Rubicon, plus friendly competitions for local skaters.

Mayor of Daventry Cllr Karen Tweedale attended the event and had a go at a variety of sports and activities throughout the day. She said: "It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the fun and games and learning about all the local clubs and teams they can join. I had a great time joining in with the activities too – thanks to the enthusiastic exhibitors who showed me the ropes!"

Daventry Town Council would like to thank all the clubs, groups and societies who came along to promote what they have to offer, as well as Juice Sound Ltd for technical support and set-up.

The next free event in the Town Council calendar is Daventry Foodies Market on Saturday 7th September, which will see the town centre packed with stalls selling an assortment of tasty treats, kitchen accessories, foodie gifts and more. This delicious day out will also feature free Heritage Bus Rides with Northampton Transport Heritage, allowing visitors to take a trip back in time with a ride on a retro bus.
