Daventry Remembrance Day 2024
On Remembrance Sunday (10th November 2024) Daventry Town Council and The Royal British Legion paid tribute to those who have nobly served their country at this year's Remembrance Parade.
Crowds gathered to pay respect to the men and women who lost their lives in two world wars plus later and current conflicts. Led by the Parade Master, W01 RSM O'Brien, Aidan - Regimental Sergeant Major, and followed by the Mayor of Daventry, Cllr Karen Tweedale, Civic Dignitaries and Councillors plus various Daventry based organisations and community groups, the parade made its way from Daventry High Street, along Abbey Street before finishing at the War Memorial.
At the War Memorial a short service was held by Rt Revd. Bishop John Holbrook, Bishop of Brixworth, Reverend Dawn Stokes of Holy Cross Church and Daventry Churches Together and Chris Ward from The Royal British Legion. The service included Daventry Brass Band playing Hymns and the National Anthem with the Last Post and Reveille being performed by David Moorhouse, the calling of the Roll of Honour read by students from Parker E-Act Academy and DSLV Academy, then the laying of wreaths by veterans, armed forces, cadets, Police & Fire personnel plus representatives of local schools, Scouts, Guides and organisations.
Cllr. Karen Tweedale, Mayor of Daventry proudly remarked:
"Remembrance Day and our parade is a welcome opportunity to come together and honour those who, through their service and sacrifice, secured our freedoms. It is important that the community comes together to uphold Remembrance and share our gratitude. Thank you to everyone who was a part of or attended the parade to show support to our local Armed Forces, it was wonderful for us to collectively pay tribute and remember our fallen heroes."
The parade then marched to the Holy Cross Church which was beautifully decorated with poppies inside and out for the Remembrance Civic Service where all were invited to attend.
Thank you to all who participated and attended this Daventry Town Council funded and organised parade.
