VE Day Celebrations

Thank you to all those who joined in the VE Day Celebrations 2020

On 8th May 2020 it was 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe.

Each year we commemorate this historic date with parades, ceremonies, large scale gatherings and street parties.

This year however, celebrations were slightly different with events postponed due to Government Guidelines relating to Covid-19 and VE Day was no exception. Hence everyone was encouraged to hold their own a 'Stay at Home Street Party'.

We asked you to send in your photos of your VE Day celebrations

We have put together a compilation of your amazing photos you sent to show how you commemorated this special day during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

Daventry celebrated in true style and memories were certainly made.

Thank you to everyone who submitted photos, we were inundated and have used as many as we could possibly squeeze in!

Daventry Museum Archive

Daventry Museum has delved into its archives which are filled with wonderful photographs of the war time period. Only a few are from VE Day itself so should you or your family have any photos that you would like to share with us we would love to see them. Just email the museum at: museum@daventrytowncouncil.gov.uk

Visit the Daventry Museum Website to see what they found.

They have even put together a little video with photos from their archives accompanied by local musicians singing well-known songs from that era. So take a trip down memory lane by watching the Daventry Remembers VE Day video.
